The special spirit of democracy is native for the cinema. That fact influenced the choice of movies much. The functioning of the cinema is closely connected with multiple historical contexts. It was opened in 1931 and became genuine proletarian leisure center. The cinema contained library, rooms for chess and dominoes, and shooting gallery in the basement. It had not lost its popularity even after the complete distraction during the World War II. So the demonstrations of the most controversial programs, such as contest of gay and lesbian films “Sunny Bunny” and “Ukrainian Panorama”, that focused the attention of Ukrainian and foreign film professionals attention, are not eventual, as well as repetition of competitive and outside the competitive programs shows.

Since then, the theatre walls remember a lot of enthusiastic confessions of love and autographs of famous people, for instance ones of Sergey Paradzhanov and Stanislav Govorukhin. Currently the cinema is the center of festival and arthouse movies, as well as of creative evenings.
