1. purpose
1.1. The 41th Kyiv International Film Festival «Molodist» will be held in Kyiv during the period of October 22-30, 2011.
1.2. The Festival has been established by the «Molodist» foundation, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine, and the Union of Filmmakers of Ukraine.
1.3. The festival is a part of the list of specialized film festivals accredited by FIAPF and has such aims as:
- to analyze the main trends and tendencies of the works of young filmmakers around the world;
- to establish and broaden creative contacts between young filmmakers and between film schools;
- to get to know new personalities in modern film art;
- to integrate Ukrainian films into the global process of film art and industry.
2. Sections of the festival and eligibility of films
2.1. Official Competition section
2.1.1. The festival competition section consists of three categories:
- student films (less than 45’)
- first professional short (fiction, animation, documentary) films (less than 45')*
- first professional full-length fiction films (60' or more)
* The selection committee recognizes the first short fiction film of a director as a debut film if his/her previous short films were documentaries or animations.
2.1.2. All films produced after the January 1, 2010 at professional studios or film schools are eligible for official competition section. As an exclusion, digital formats as Digital Betacam, Blu-Ray and HDCAM (not HDCAM SR) are eligible for participation within the borders of student section of competition program. Films at short and full-length sections are subject of submission only in case of 35mm print presence.
2.1.3. Films that have participated and have been awarded prizes in other festivals may be submitted for competition.
2.2. Alternative competition sections
2.2.1. The thematic program dedicated to the issues and problems of the LGBT-community «Sunny Bunny»:
- Full-length and short films (fiction, animation, documentary) thematically relevant and produced after January 1, 2010 (any media) are eligible for the «Sunny Bunny» alternative competition section. Films that have participated and have been awarded prizes in other festivals may be submitted for competition.
2.2.2. «Ukrainian panorama 2010-2011»:
- Full-length and short films (fiction, animation, documentary) produced in Ukraine (or in co-production with Ukraine) after January 1, 2010 (any media) are eligible for the «Ukrainian panorama» alternative competition section. Films that have participated and have been awarded prizes in other festivals may be submitted for competition.
2.3. Non-competition section
The festival also has a non-competition section which represents selections of the latest films from a certain country or region, productions of film schools, thematic programs, retrospectives, and special events.
3. Entry and Selection
3.1. To apply for participation in the festival, please send a completed entry form with a DVD copy of the film and the documentation requested in the film entry form. The entry form is an official document and is recognized as valid in the case of the presence of the applicant’s signature, which declares the acceptance of the rules of participation in the selection process or the represention the film in the festival programs (if selected).
3.2. Each film received by the festival needs to have English-language subtitles as well as detailed documentation in English including:
- synopsis of the film;
- biography and filmography of the director;
- cast/crew and technical information;
- stills from the film (digital hi-res images (JPEG, TIFF));
- photos of the director (digital hi-res images (JPEG, TIFF));
- dialogue lists in English.
3.3. There is no entry fee.
3.4. The festival does not return the entry-form, the preview DVD or the accompanied documentation (excluding special agreements).
3.5. Film submissions start February 1, 2011. Deadline for film submissions is July 1, 2011.
3.6. Films will be selected by the Selection Committee appointed by the Board of Directors.
3.7. The Selection Committee will announce its decision during the period of September 1-30, 2011.
4. Festival Obligations
4.1. Festival films will be insured the amount of their print value by the festival. Insurance coverage takes effect from the registration of the film's arrival in Kyiv until they are handed over to a forwarding agent for return dispatch.
4.2. The festival guarantees the right presentation of the film in all informational issues that will be distributed during the festival such as catalogue, program, web-site etc.
4.3. The festival guarantees the participant that no film selected for the festival’s program will be screened before its official presentation.
4.4. The festival has the obligation to prevent all film materials from screen capture and piracy during the selection process and the screenings according to FIAPF standards (Chapter IV, Article 8 of the Regulations for International Film Festivals).
4.5. The festival has the right to 3 screenings of the films of the Official Competition section. The quantity of the screenings of the films of the alternative competition sections as well as non-competition sections is coordinated by the rights holder.
5. Shipping
5.1.

Delivery of the films or preview DVDs to the festival is paid by the sender.
5.2. The Board of Directors recommends the applicants that they send their films and the accompanying materials through their country's consular channels. Please note that films (film prints or DVDs) sent by mail or by courier must be marked with a statement: «For cultural purposes only. No commercial value» and be valued less than 10 USD. For detailed information about the delivery of the films and preview DVDs, please click «Shipping Instructions». The return shipment of the film prints is paid by the festival. The festival does not return preview DVDs.
5.3. Deadline for sending film prints back to the owner is November 20, 2011.
6. Jury
6.1. The Board of Directors comprises an International Jury which awards the films of the Official Competition section and operates according to the Regulations for International Film Festivals by FIAPF as well as the regulations of the IFF Molodist.
6.2. FIPRESCI, FICC and Ecumenical juries as well as other juries can also be presented at the festival.
6.3. Alternative competition sections such as «Sunny Bunny» and «Ukrainian Panorama» are evaluated by special juries.
7. Awards
7.1. The International Jury awards the films of the Official Competition section with the following prizes:
- Grand Prix for the best competition film (10,000 USD and the statuette «The Scythian Deer»),
- Prize for the best film in each category (student films / first professional short films / first professional full-length fiction films) - a monetary award or a material prize of 2,500 USD,
- Prize for the best performance by a young actor (1,500 EUR) ,
- Festival diplomas.
7.2. Other awards:
- Lifetime-achievement prize from the Board of Directors,
- Audience prize,
- FIPRESCI jury prize (in the case of its presence on festival),
- «Don Quixote» prize (in the case of the presence of the FICC jury),
- Ecumenical jury prize (in the case of its presence on festival),
- «Sunny Bunny» award for the films of the «Sunny Bunny» alternative competition section,
- Award of the jury of «Ukrainian Panorama» alternative competition section,
- International Fund «Ukraine 3000» prize for the significant contribution to the Ukrainian cinematography.
Other non-regulation awards sponsored by private persons, organizations or institutions may be awarded with the approval of the Boards of Directors of the festival.
8. Invitation and Attendance
8.1. Directors, whose films have been selected for Official Competition section, are invited as participants for 4 days (4 nights' accommodation in a hotel). Travel costs can be covered by the festival in exceptional cases.
8.2. Applications for accreditation as a guest or press must be received no later than September 20, 2011.
9. Promotion and advertising
The Board of Directors provides free advertising and public information for festival films and organizations participating in the festival. Advertising campaigns of other organizations or films is a matter of special agreement.
10. Non-specified cases
Cases not covered by these regulations will be considered directly by the festival organizers in compliance with the Regulations for International Film Festivals by FIAPF.
