At the center of the story is Tatarin, the battalion’s senior sergeant and instructor. He appears as a harsh and uncompromising authority figure, shaping civilians into soldiers through relentless discipline and pressure. Yet behind the commands, the shouting, and the ritual of military training emerges a man carrying a different burden: the responsibility of preparing others for a reality in which mistakes can be fatal.
