Lavrente “Lav” Indico Diaz is a Filipino independent filmmaker and former film critic. Lav Diaz gained international recognition with NORTE, THE END OF HISTORY, screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. FROM WHAT IS BEFORE won the Golden Leopard at the 2014 Locarno Film Festival. A LULLABY TO THE SORROWFUL MYSTERY competed at the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival and received the Alfred Bauer Prize. That same year, THE WOMAN WHO LEFT won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
