Gates of Europe — nine minutes in the life of twenty-year-old Vira, who, after losing her mother to the war, is left alone with her brother Roma and slowly assumes the role of his caregiver. Vira dreams of taking her brother abroad, but when she raises the subject, the two speak openly with each other for the first time.
Olexi Chubun is a Ukrainian film director and screenwriter, born in 1996 in Shostka. He studied screenwriting at the Wajda School and later earned a degree in directing from the Film and TV Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU). In 2023, his documentary Homeward premiered at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival and won the Grand Prix in the “Lift” competition in Ukraine.
