FILM INFO

"There's no work in Ukraine," said my father, appearing in my life when I was 18. He invited me to join him in the Czechia. His letters (2003–2007) about life abroad embody a desire not to forget the period of transformation in Ukraine. The voice-over belongs to a person who doesn't exist in reality, to better match the voice of the person who doesn't exist in my life.

Nataliya Ilchuk is researching the interrelation between economic migration and technological progress. She analyzes how automatization and the transfer of knowledge through technology, rather than through human intermediation, lead to new forms of estrangement. In contrast to the ideology of profit-making, her methodological approach is based on the economy of resources. Her primary material for laconic expression is archives, which allows her to avoid exploiting the present.
